Artistic genius

Riverstone is a fantastic artist that is able to portray a kind of idealistic, more perfect form of sensuality that seems more sensual than sensualism itself is in real life. In this way, his art and ideas are greater and more incredible even than any tangible form they might be made to represent. In other words: sexier than sex.

I would compare Riverstone to Masamune Shirow. They both have broken a psychic barrier of some kind.

These guys are GREAT!

As a recently diagnosed adult ADD'er this book is wonderful! Things that I have struggled with my entire life finally make sense. The short attention span is only a small part of ADD or ADHD as it has all become recognized as. There are a whole host of other "issues" that are directly related that once a person can get their head around then can more effectively deal with. This book is written with the ADD'er in mind first in small bites so that we can easily take the information learned "chew on it for a while" and then figure whether or not it applies and if so how we can then in turn use the information to improve our lives. Secondly, it is written with a sharp sense of humor so the read is an enjoyable one, you look forward to the journey.I hope this helps and if you do get the book that it helps you as much as it has me.

AHHHH! Finally something has come along to explain my experiences over a long lifetime. Wish I had known that I was ADD much earlier, but I have succeeded in life by unconsciously devising my own adaptations and strategies (two Master's Degrees from major universities, and my own business). If you are an adult who has been often frustrated in life, read this ..... if you are a parent with a child who has been diagnosed with ADD or ADDHD, read this yourself, and then using your own judgement maybe have your child read it with you at some point in their life. Believe me, it is such a relief to know I haven't been alone in my struggles! And its all told here with a great sense of humor (I never missed episodes of "The Red Green Show!" ) There is also a great section on strategies for life! Very helpful! ~ Joyous!

Loved it!

This book was so cathartic for me! I laughed, I cried, and I identified. So much of the content resonated with me. Besides the content--which was informative and educational--I loved the personal anecdotes about people with ADHD. I liked how there was humorous commentary by Rick Green and instructional commentary by Dr. Umesh Jain. Additionally, the various traits or characteristics of ADHD, along with the stories and commentary were only one to two pages long; short enough to keep the attention of someone with ADD. The book brought me a sense of relief and hope. I especially recommend the book for adults who have been newly diagnosed.

Very useful instruction

Great book by a master of the faith. St. Augustine writes this book (or letter) to the Deacon Deogratias, who is asking for help.

St. Augustine writes how to give a homily: (1) Brief Introduction; (2) Historical Background (which includes the major events from Creation to Revelation; (3) Exhortation.

He also gives some advice on how to overcome discouragement, which we still experience today. He empathizes with Deacon Deogratias.

It's been a while since I read this book, but he may also go into the different senses of scripture.

Jon Godon does it again with The Carpenter

The Carpenter came along for me in a difficult time. I fell in love with the characters because they were so relatable. I can't put my finger on it, but when I got finished reading The Carpenter, I felt at peace that everything was going to be ok. The Christian underpinnings of his books leaves me with some sort of comfort that I know God has a plan for us and if I am just patient that it will all play out just as it is meant to be. In the meantime, I can use the strategies that Jon Gordon gives to help me in my journey to get through the difficulties because he makes them so easy to apply to your every day life. You can not go wrong reading this book. If you are going through anything personal or professional, it is in your best interest to read The Carpenter. My hope for you is that you will have the peace and comfort I was left with.

Success is simple!

At some point in our lives,I believe most of us have felt like we are drowning in our work, family life, or health. Success seems vibrant, energetic and possible until life gets in the way. We feed our fear after facing obstacles, and the dreams tend to fade. We can lose our love due to fear. Instead of succeeding, we fight just to breathe.

There's No Such Thing as Overnight Success

During my day job as a life coach, I'm always looking for books to recommend to my clients and subscribers. One of my go-to authors for books that can help change your perspective in this game called “life” is Jon Gordon.

I was super excited to be invited to read an early copy of his latest book, The Carpenter.

The Carpenter opens with Michael, awakening in a hospital. During an early morning run, his body simply gave out from the level of stress he’d been living under trying to nurture a growing family and new business. The man who tended him and got him to a hospital was a Carpenter. When Michael tracks him down to thank him, he ends up hiring him to build a bookshelf in their home.

Talking with the Carpenter during his time working on their project, Michael quickly learns that he is more than just a Carpenter; he is also a builder of lives, careers, people, and teams. As the Carpenter shares his wisdom, Michael attempts to save his business in the face of adversity, rejection, fear, and failure.

The lessons he learns along the way mirror the truths I regularly work with my clients.

There’s no such thing as an overnight success.
That we must choose love over fear.
That we must serve if we want to lead.

Tedious and Redundant

I had to purchase this book for a class I'm taking that is being taught by Scott Jacques, one of the writers. This book attempts to explain why well off white kids in suburban neighborhoods use and sell drugs. In an attempt to be what would assume is thorough the book takes on a repetitive redundancy. Yes that was intentional. One can only read about "coolness being opposite of lameness" for so long. I fell asleep reading this book multiple times. It feels like the authors were trying entirely too hard to be unbiased. And a lot of the direct quotes used felt rehearsed and out of place. This was a tedious read and I wish I could get my time back.

Code of the Suburb is an entertaining, informative, and important glimpse into the world of drug dealers operating in the power-washed underbelly of suburban America. A quick and fun read, this book is a must for any student, scholar, or policy-maker interested in how the social structure of communities can promote or discourage cultural attitudes toward violence. Beyond these audiences, this book will also fascinate and interest fans of popular ethnographic and fictional works centered on drug dealing, such as The Corner, The Wire, and Breaking Bad.

I miss my twenty dollars

In Code of the Suburb, Jacques and Wright attempt to explain how middle class white teenagers and young adults enter the world of drug dealing. Their thesis is that teens begin using drugs to be perceived as cool, and then move on to dealing to save money on their habit: buy in bulk for cheap and sell for profit. I cannot grasp for the life of me as to how this thesis differs from the decades old D.A.R.E. motto; kids do drugs for peer pressure and fall into the quicksand of the “drug world”. This notion is stale and far too facile.

In their defense, they provide a detailed, if not somewhat redundant, description. Granted, this picture vastly differs from mainstream notion of the illegal drug business. However, they do not attempt to contrast this difference until the conclusion; for the majority of the book, the only continuous point they present is these young suburban dealers/users do drugs because they “want to be cool and not lame-o”. Beginning with the first joint of cannabis, seeking extra money, sharing drugs and giving bargain price to loyal customers are linked to “coolness”. Furthermore, even the parents’ willing ignorance of dealers’ illicit activities are also attributed “neighborhood image”.

To put it shortly, some good ideas and bad writing style.

EXCELLENT CORE REVIEW

As an almost graduating 4th year who has seen the Core exam and been pimped for 4 years, this is a must read for all radiology residents. Excellent review of salient points and popular pimp questions. Seems to be the needed "depth" of review as well. If I needed more info, I found a corresponding radiographics article or looked stuff up from the reference sections. It's meant to be a review, not a text.

Diagrams are awesome and a breath of fresh air. Tons of images also assist with the pertinent facts. While I would not consider this a replacement for Brant and Helms, or primer, it is very new and has many things that are up and coming that I haven't necessarily found in the other two books.

I also find it interesting that many of my staff like the looks of it and are buying it as a review text themselves. Definitely worth the money. I would buy again in a heartbeat

Good book to have. I consider it an excellent backbone for residency and excellent for pre exam preparation.
I admire the work done in it. I liked the style as opposed to Primer. This book has extensive diagrams and boxes.

Great book! As someone who just found out they passed the core exam I thought this book was a SOLID review. I read it while I was studying before I went into more depth on each subject and found it was great. Then the four days before the test it was all I did and I reread (skimmed) the entire book. Helped put things into their proper places in my head before the test. I also wish I had this book as a first year because a lot of the stuff is very basic and having it all organized neatly in one book is great. I loved having the hard copy of the book and even though it was huge I carried it around with my for weeks while I was studying. I would HIGHLY recommend this.
