A Treasure

I love this book. Tolle describes ancient truths and applies them to life in the 21st century in a way that is inspiring and comforting. I took away from this book three simple, yet profound ideas. First and foremost, Tolle believes that we are all connected to each other and that everything we do matters and has an impact on our world. His second idea lies in the power of listening: he suggests that if we can quiet our egos long enough to truly listen, it is possible to feel a sacredness and inner harmony where everything has its perfect place. And lastly, the author speaks of the power of awareness. The moment you notice a pattern of behavior that is no longer working for you, you are a success.

Reading this book reminded me of the writings of two of my favorite authors: Ariel and Shya Kane. In their books Being Here: Modern Day Tales of Enlightenment, Working on Yourself Doesn't Work: A Book About Instantaneous Transformation and How To Create a Magical Relationship[, the Kanes teach a fun and easy way to live fully and joyously in the moment. Their approach is practical and magical at the same time. If you like Tolle's work you're bound to love the Kane's. All of these books are treasures to be enjoyed.

I loved this book! It holds true power and purpose! Recommend to all my friends and family!
I would recommend having a pen/highlighter present when reading this though! It makes it easier to take in it and really go back and reflect on the worlds. There are many powerful messages in this book!

The best book I've ever read.

This book is phenomenal. Maybe I'd say it is the best book I've read also because of the timing that I read it, during difficult times. The book provides great spiritual guidance steeped from ancient wisdoms, yet is easy to read due to it being written in modern times. Though the book does not have religious overtones, (maybe Budism?) though references to religions, it actually helped me understand the Bible a lot better. The entire book is about consciousness, being present, living in the now. Because of that, some may not grasp the essence of this book. However, I've always believed that even if you can get one good thing that you can take with you for your life then it was worth the read.

you HAVE to know it - if you don't I am riding you pretty hard. As I used several sources to study ...

It would be difficult for me to disagree more than I do with the first reviewer. I used Surgical Recall as a medical student. I used Adavanced Surgical Recall as a resident. When I started fellowship several years after practicing general surgery I bought a new edition of Advanced Surgical Recall. This book has consistently been my "go to" source for general surgical pearls for over ten years.

I understand that the previous reviewer wants an electronic version, but the true benefit of this book is being able to conceal the answers and test yourself. Also there have been numerous studies showing that hard copy materials foster more retention than electronic ones.

If you are a medical student, an intern on a general surgery rotation, or an early general surgery resident this book will get you to answer 95% or more of your attendings' pimp questions. As a staff surgeon I consider this book to be the yard stick I measure resident knowledge by - if it's in Recall, you HAVE to know it - if you don't I am riding you pretty hard. As I used several sources to study for my ABSITEs and boards (including Recall) I cannot say which one was my favorite for board review. I do know that for the other 364 days of the year when there is not an ABSITE this should be the book you are carrying with you.

Really LWW? Not formatted for Kindle on iPhone? As an extremely busy surgical resident, do you honestly think I'm going to have time to read/use this book any other way? I would have been all over it, having seen an older print version of the book as a med student. But no iPhone formatting means I'll stick to something else- If I'm going to lug around an actual BOOK, it will certainly be Comprehensive ABSITE Review by Fiser, not this one.

Good starting point for begginers

This is my first book on Forex trading, so I have nothing to compare it to. So this review is for the book contents and what I like or hated about it.
The book covers the basics as implied by its tittle. Don't expect in-depth analysis or fancy detailed trading strategies. The book is properly paced and not boring -at least if you're interested on learning.
The language is clear enough for beginners, but the author makes a big mistake that is consistent throughout the book: tries to explain topics using jargon that is at best latter on explained on the book. So you have to go to the internet and figure out the words or concept we fails to explain earlier as it should be. I must say that while this is a big pitfall as a writer, it's good for you as reader as it forces you to spend several hours (given you have the time) on the internet reading the overwhelming amount of information found there, which helps you to diversify what you are reading on the book.

I gave it 3 stars mostly for the lack of figures/graphics that would help to understand the concepts he tries to come across. The quantity of figures is extremely short and makes your imagination soar figuring out how things look like. The author failed to understand than since most interesting concepts about forex trading are closely related with the charts, these are of paramount importance to explain clearly and succinctly. It's a shame the book is so short of graphics coz otherwise would be a great book.
At last, it's unbelievable that the author, the editor and however proofread the book (if somebody ever did that) failed to notice the basic arithmetics errors on the examples used to explain EVP.
The bottom line: the book is worth it if you're a beginner and feel overwhelm by the information found on the internet.

Gets You On The Road

Jelle does a great job of showing you the territory and giving you a good idea of where to start and exactly what to do. I'm a beginner but I read most of the book before I started a practice account and it helped tremendously. I tried the author's suggestions and they work. You make a huge mistake unless you set TP and SL with every trade. The review of technical trading, range, and trend trading was very good without weighing you down with too much information. I will say that the one deficiency of the book was that it didn't give you enough real time trading information sources; i.e., where to find Federal Reserve, EU, and economic source information, but that comes naturally. Good read on a tough subject. Thanks Jelle.

Valuable resource for beginning currency traders

I settled on buying this book because the title described ME well. I consider myself ambitious in whatever I would like to learn, so I decided to give this book a chance.

The book reads like a novel, in that - while there is knowledge being imparted - it is always done in a narrative fashion with a large dollop of humor thrown in. No dry scholarly advice here! The book does warn for beginning currency traders' common pitfalls and introduces the reader to many common forex trading strategies, so it certainly isn't light on content. It's just that the content is delivered in a very readable - at times laugh-out-loud - manner.

The quiz at the end of the book makes it easy to test yourself on your newfound currency trading knowledge and tries to persuade you to put the different elements together and really think about the world of forex.

If I hadn't started trading before reading this book, I would have opened my first account right after reading parts 1-3 of this well-written book. The author is very skilled in motivating you to put your knowledge to work right away.

If the book has any failing, it would be that it could have included a *little* more insider knowledge of how markets genuinely operate. Such as, be careful when trading EUR/USD or USD/GBP when London opens (because of volatility). One other key maxim that might have received a little more press is NEVER to try to second-guess the market.

Anyway, this is hands-down the best beginners guide to the currency markets that I know of being out there today!

Invisible Asians draws on the life stories of more than sixty adult Korean adoptees in three locations: Minnesota, home to the largest concentration of Korean adoptees in the United States; the Pacific Northwest, where many of the first Korean adoptees were raised; and Seoul, home to hundreds of adult adoptees who have returned to South Korea to live and work. Their experiences underpin a critical examination of research and policy making about transnational adoption from the 1950s to the present day. Park Nelson connects the invisibility of Korean adoptees to the ambiguous racial positioning of Asian Americans in American culture, and explores the implications of invisibility for Korean adoptees as they navigate race, culture, and nationality. Raised in white families, they are ideal racial subjects in support of the trope of “colorblindness” as a “cure for racism” in America, and continue to enjoy the most privileged legal status in terms of immigration and naturalization of any immigrant group, built on regulations created specifically to facilitate the transfer of foreign children to American families.

R. Duane Ireland is a University Distinguished Professor and holder of the Conn Chair in New Ventures Leadership in the Mays Business School, Texas A&M University. He teaches strategic management courses at all levels. He has more than 200 publications. His research, which focuses on diversification, innovation, corporate entrepreneurship, strategic entrepreneurship, and the informal economy, has been published in an array of journals. He has served as a member of multiple editorial review boards and is a former editor of the Academy of Management Journal. He has been a guest editor for 12 special issues of journals. He is a past president of the Academy of Management. Dr. Ireland is a fellow of the Academy of Management and a fellow of the Strategic Management Society. He is a research fellow in the Global Consortium of Entrepreneurship Centers and received an award in 1999 for Outstanding Intellectual Contributions to Competitiveness Research from the American Society for Competitiveness. He received the Falcone Distinguished Entrepreneurship Scholar Award from Syracuse University in 2005, the USASBE Scholar in Corporate Entrepreneurship Award from USASBE in 2004, and the Riata Distinguished Entrepreneurship Scholar award from Oklahoma State University in 2014. He received awards for the best article published in Academy of Management Executive (1999), the Academy of Management Journal (2000), and the Journal of Applied Management and Entrepreneurship (2010). He received an Association of Former Students Distinguished Achievement Award for Research from Texas A&M University (2012). In 2014, Dr. Ireland was listed as a Thomson Reuters Highly Cited Researcher (a listing of the world's most influential researchers), and he was also listed as one of The World's Most Influential Scientific Minds (a listing of the top cited researchers in science around the globe).

Useful but verbose

I bought this book for an entrepreneurship class, and I don't regret using it at all. It had plenty of useful information in it, but just as anything business-related, it's extremely wordy and takes forever to read. I ended up reading the first few sentences of every paragraph rather and getting about the same information out of it.

Easy to read. Colorful. Simple text style and setup. Lots of real life examples. The cases at the end of the chapters are useful for assessing what you just read.

However, the book could use some more in-depth breakdown of a Feasibility Analysis and a Business Plan.

Still a better love story than Twilight...

The first two books had their flaws, but that did not stop me from developing an obsession with the story. I neglected my studies while eating up every page. I was even glad that the books were long so that it would not have to end too soon. With Voyager, I could not put the book down, because I was so desperate to be done with it. Towards the end, I began skimming through paragraphs to hurry it up (which did not matter, because so much of the crap that happens in this book is pointless). It's a real testament to the first two books that I even finished Voyager, because I had fallen in love with Jamie and Claire and just had to know what happened to them. But now I'm so disenchanted with the series, I wish I had never read this horrible book.

It starts out all right, but after Jamie and Claire reunite (like right after), all hell breaks loose. I did not even get to enjoy the reunion before characters were being groped, shot, almost burned to death and so on. Oh, and let's not forget all the ridiculous misunderstandings that result in long spells of argument between characters that I swear were put there just to make the book longer. And it just gets worse. We are given one unbelievable situation after another. In half these situations, Claire does not even know what is going on, so it's terribly confusing for the reader.
Despite how muddled everything gets, many things are also way too predictable. I was not surprised at any point during this story (except for the unexpected surprise of it sucking so bad).
I won't go into too many details, because I'm so over it that I don't have the energy to rant about it. I felt it my civic duty to at least warn other readers considering this book.

Goes Way, Way Beyond the Ridiculous Threshold

Last week when I posted my review of Outlander, I wondered whether it would be smart to press on with the series in one massive reading binge, or whether, due to their epic length and the difficult emotional content, it would be smarter to take them slowly... as if I could. A longstanding joke in my family is that I was absent the day they handed out will power, and sure enough, even as I knew it would probably be too much for me emotionally, I devoured Dragonfly in Amber and then Voyager. And maybe it was too much of a good thing, or maybe it was just that I hit a wall and had no more empathy to waste on Jamie and Claire and their endless trevails, but I reached a point midway in this book where I just could not willingly suspend my disbelief anymore.

I'm not sure what happened. Having finished Outlander and Dragonfly in Amber, I was already well used to the endless cycle of Jamie and/or Claire finding themselves in mortal peril with no way out, only they do get out, celebrate their narrow escape with sexy times, and then shortly find themselves in mortal peril again. I'd suspended my disbelief quite a bit, and was just enjoying the ride.

Back in December 2011, the DBSA Romance Fiction Podcast (hosted by Sarah Wendell of Smart B****es, Trashy Books and Jane Litte of Dear Author) had an episode about the Ridiculousness Threshold -- that point at which the reader can no longer accept character or plot insanity and no longer enjoys the book. For me, I hit the Ridiculousness Threshold the moment Laoghaire's daughter walks in on Jamie and Claire at Lallybroch and calls him "Daddy!"

After that, no matter how I tried, I could not silence my inner skeptic. Almost every twist and turn of the convoluted plot made me roll my eyes and think, "Oh, for pete's sake, seriously?" The entire rest of the book is one absolutely ridiculous coincidence after another, and even in a series where I was willing to believe in time travel and the main characters' repeated skin-of-the-teeth survival against all odds, I just could not believe in pirates and slasher-killers and secret babies and zombies and shipwrecks and all of the rest of the insanity writ large over the 870 pages of this book.

And you know, the worst of it is that even though I'm totally done, and can't shut up my inner critic enough to enjoy reading, I still want to know what happens to Jamie and Claire next. Maybe I can find some Cliffs Notes.

Does not maintain the appeal of the first two books.

After thoroughly enjoying the first two books, I was looking forward to this one. Although parts of it are fun, overall it is very disappointing. A few thoughts:
(1) Severe seasickness can lead to dehydration which can lead to death. So saying that no one ever died of seasickness is not accurate.
(2) Claire takes the time to prepare to step back in time, but does not seek out a dressmaker to make a proper costume. She has a cloak made, but buys a dress off the rack. She does not carry a bag with a spare dress.
(3) After never mentioning it before, she just happens to have penicillin when needed even though her original clothes were ruined.
(4) She is leaving a note for a daughter she may never see again and her concern is that her daughter not get fat.
There are many other things. Not sure I will bother with book 4.

An oldie. Got the two together for my father. All three of us are of the liking, but he's of the era. Good words from a soft spoken man. The book itself is beautifully laid out and the jacket design is classically retro. Brought out a pleasantly surprised smile.
