Lev Nelik, PhD, PE, APICS, is the President of Pumping Machinery, LLC. He has over thirty years of engineering, manufacturing, management, sales and field experience in the pump industry, including Ingersoll-Rand, Goulds Pumps, Liquiflo and Roper Pumps. He is an advisory committee memeber of the Texas A&M International Pump Users Symposium. Jim R. Brennan, SPE, is currently Projects Manager for IMO Pump, Monroe, NC, USA. His responsibilities have included worldwide service and technical support for the company's rotary screw and gear pump product lines. Brennan is a graduate of Drexel University in Philadelphia, is a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers and has over 35 years of application and troubleshooting experience.

a hardback replacement for a paper back that started coming apart at the binding, many pages loosened and became totally free; at least they separated evenly, but, I wonder was this book printed in China, or Mexico, or Thailand, or Bangladesh? is ask because i hadn't abused it or anything like that but it didn't hold up very well.... now, this hardback edition, is much better built... if you get what i mean.

Beautifully Illustrated for European Cuisine

I purchased this book because I was looking for some recipes and tips for using my Romertopf clay cooker. The book does a thorough job of discussing the various types and techniques for cooking with glazed and unglazed clay pots, and examines other one-pot techniques (pan-frying, stir-frying pot-roasting)as well. But the real beauty of this book is the wealth of illustrations. Each recipe not only includes a picture of the finished dish, but several pictures showing the 'how to' of the recipe directions. The recipes are divided into clearly numbered steps again accompanied most of the time by an illustration.
I would have given this book five stars but for the fact that the book is designed primarily for European cooks and includes many recipes for dishes not particularly common in American kitchens. There are many dishes using lamb and the spices and the combination of ingredients have a decidedly European feel. That is not intended to be a negative comment as I intend to expand my culinary experience by trying some of the recipes that I have never tasted. But for Americans who like more traditional fare and are like me, looking to learn more about cooking with a clay pot, this book may be a disappointment.

Am totally thrilled with this large book. The photos of the finished dishes are fantastic, and the instructional photos for each recipe are very helpful. The directions are clear and easy to follow. There are quite a few classic recipes included, and I started cooking the evening this came in the post. Excellent investment.

It's a new chapter in the Batman legacy.

Tracy Hickman you have taken the Batman legacy and added a completely new chapter to it. The genius of the back story, mystery and intricate detail kept me reading even when I should have been doing something else. I couldn't put it down. I loved the way you included so much of the Batman history that we all know and love. Well done, Tracy.

Clumsy

Let me start by saying that Hickman is a good writer. I have read other works by him and they have been good. This is why it is so surprising how this book was written.
As any beginning writer knows description should not be added in place of plot, and yet that is exactly what Hickman does in this book. He uses a lot of unnecessary description (describing things that have no apparent purpose in the story) instead of giving us the action that a book like this demands.
It should have been so easy to please the reader. It is a story about Batman and all Hickman needed to do was write about Batman solving a mystery (here the mystery of who his father really was) and fighting some people along the way and we would be happy. Instead he stops in the middle of an action scene to tell us about Batman's bionic armor; useful information - maybe, necessary to interrupt a fight scene for - no.
If Hickman would have taken the time and thought about it, he could have easily found much better ways to give us the information about Batman's new armor or a more concise way to tell us about the Batmobile than 4 pages of pure description with no action or relevance to the story that the reader can see at the moment. It really feels like the Hickman wrote this book for the money and not the story.
If you want a good pre-origin story Keven J. Anderson did one about Krypton that was decent.
Wayne of Gotham is worth reading if you are a hardcore Batman fan but you will find yourself trudging through the pages. Batman should not be laborious to read it should move fast with a lot of action and mystery.
Also Hickman does have a very limited knowledge of who or what Batman exactly is. It is ok to reimagine a character, but you really should study who he is before you change him into who you think he could be.

New twists and old Foes

I admit I'm not an avid comic reader/ fan. That being said, this book is a really good ride. It has everything a good Batman story should have, cool gadgets, crazy villains (many famous ones making a cameo in the book)and Batman having to out think his opponent while trying to come to terms with the dark legacy his father left him. The gripping final confrontation will have you reading under the covers until the early morning hours. This book weaves an amazing tapestry, twisting the threads of past and present of the Wayne family into a colorful and startling picture. Highly recommend for fans and non fans alike. Loved it!

Johnny Marr was born in 1960s Manchester to Irish immigrant parents and knew from an early age that he would be a musician.

About the Author

Mini S. Thomas is a professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, India (JMI), with 29 years of teaching and research experience in the field of power systems. She was the head of the Department of Electrical Engineering and currently is the director of the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship. She graduated from the University of Kerala, India and obtained her M.Tech from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, both with Gold Medals. She also holds a Ph.D from the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, New Delhi. Dr. Thomas conceived, designed, and implemented the first-of-their-kind supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) and substation automation (SA) laboratories and has done extensive research work in SCADA systems, substation and distribution automation, and smart grids. She has published more than 100 research papers in international journals and conferences of repute, and is the coordinator of the special assistance program (SAP) on power system automation from the University Grants Commission, Government of India.

John D. McDonald, P.E., is director of Technical Strategy and Policy Development for GE Energy Management - Digital Energy, Atlanta, Georgia, USA, with 40 years of experience in the electric utility industry. He joined GE Energy’s Transmission and Distribution (now Digital Energy) business in 2008 as general manager of marketing, and accepted his current role in 2010. McDonald is a sought-after industry leader, technical expert, educator, and speaker. In his 28 years of working group and subcommittee leadership with the IEEE Power and Energy Society (PES) Substations Committee, he led seven working groups and task forces that published standards and tutorials in the areas of SCADA and master/remote terminal unit (RTU) and RTU/IED communications protocols. He is a fellow of IEEE and past president of the IEEE PES. He teaches smart grid courses for GE and the Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, USA, and substation automation, SCADA, and communications courses for various IEEE PES local chapters. He has published 80 papers and articles, co-authored four books, and holds a BSEE and MSEE from Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana, USA, and an MBA from the University of California-Berkeley, USA. He received the 2009 Outstanding Electrical and Computer Engineer Award from Purdue University.
